Over the past year I’ve traveled more than usual, there’s nothing that makes you appreciate the place you live like a little staycation in your own city. And even though I’m new to Cleveland, after years and years of visiting and going home with college friends to their respective suburbs, I’m pretty familiar with the city. A few weekends ago I decided to treat myself and my good friend Danielle to a night in Cleveland in style, so naturally I booked a room with the Metropolitan at The 9. If you’re not familiar- this gorgeous luxury hotel opened almost four years ago. Home to not only just a hotel, The 9 boasts upscale restaurants, bars, and apartments that make it a first thought for those looking to upgrade their Cleveland experience. Not to mention- you may catch a Kardashian or Cleveland Cavalier sighting if you’re lucky.
After grabbing my fur babies a sitter on Rover I headed over for check-in. The process was seamless and we were given the card to our little oasis for the night right away. The rooms at The 9 are the perfect size and just the right amount of boujee for a night out downtown. The room amenities include everything you could think of needing, including a fully stocked mini fridge and a handy spare charger.
Our first stop was Azure for lunch. We had eaten a decent breakfast and weren’t too hungry but wanted to grab something light to hold us over until dinner. Not to mention, it was an absolutely gorgeous day (much different than the weather we’ve been having lately) and we wanted to take advantage of the sunshine while it lasted. Azure’s rooftop has one of the best views in Cleveland, and their cocktails and entrees match.
Danielle sipped on a Heat Wave cocktail with a berry arugula salad, I ordered the Summer Fashion with the mahi mahi tacos; we both shared their hummus to start. Everything was delicious and light and was perfect for a rooftop lunch. We ended our afternoon with a drink in the Flats, and headed back downtown to get ready for dinner.
I’ve eaten at Adega a few times already for lunch and it’s my favorite place to eat in the city. There are so many great options for more health-centric and meat-free diets; the place just has a vibe about it that makes your lunch relaxing and recharges you before getting back to work. I could bathe in their tabbouli and citrus hummus and their falafel wrap is my favorite lunch go to….but dinner at Adega? Definitely takes the cake (and the nutella pot de creme).
We were so excited to eat we skipped the appetizer and went straight for drinks and entrees. Danielle got the wild mushroom flatbread and a ‘The 9’ cocktail. I stuck with a water and ordered the sea scallops. I’ve had a ton of scallops in my day and up until eating at Adega, my best scallop entree to date was at Cask Bar + Kitchen in New York City. Sorry Cask, but I’ve found a new favorite. This entree is incredible and probably my favorite meal I’ve had in Cleveland so far.
We topped everything off with the nutella pot de creme (and by we, I mean I). I’m not much for sweets or dessert, but this is my new favorite. It doesn’t overdo the nutella flavor and I’m a sucker for bananas.
After raving for at least 20 minutes about how good our meal is and how full we were, we ended the night with a few cocktails up at Azure’s end of season party and proceeded to sleep in our cozy home for the night. We set up a wake-up call in the morning through our TV (because responsibilities) and checked out the next morning feeling well fed, well rested, and with a new love for downtown.
With a place like The 9, the need to even leave your hotel is lost. They have virtually everything a guest would need traveling to Cleveland, along with an iconic experience for a weekend staycation. If you want to learn more about what the Metropolitan and it’s outlets have to offer, head over to their website here.
If you’re looking for a reason to have a little staycation of your own (and love champagne), The 9 is holding a ‘festive celebration of bubbles’ in the beautiful Rotunda this weekend, November 3rd-5th. Bubbles Under Glass, sponsored by Heinen’s, is a night to get dressed up and sip on some of the best champagne you can get your hands on. Click here to get tickets to the events, or treat your special someone to a couples package including a night at the Metropolitan.
